INJURY ISSUES MONITOR - AIPN Elects New Prez!
AIPN Elects New Prez!
 |
The Australian Injury Prevention Network held its Annual General Meeting in conjunction with
the 2nd National Injury Conference in Melbourne in February. At that meeting, Pam Albany retired as
the inaugural President of the AIPN and Dr Rod McClure was elected to succeed her. From a
background in emergency medicine, Rod went on to pursue public health training. Since 1995, he has
held the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the
University of Queensland. Last year, he accepted a secondment to that University's Department of
Medicine to help establish the Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation
Medicine (CONROD). Rod's current teaching responsibilities include public health, epidemiology, and
medicine and his current research projects cover the range of primary, secondary and tertiary
prevention of injury. He also has an involvement in a number of community-based injury control
programs. |
Rod will be assisted in his duties by a newly elected executive committee: Jan
Shield (Secretary), Neil Thomson (Treasurer), Beth Fuller, Marilyn Lyford,
Catherine Thompson, James Harrison and Jane Elkington.
