Injury Prevention Focus on Standards Committees

The Commonwealth Department of Health and Family Services has recently convened a Standards Working Group to look at ways of increasing the participation of people from the injury prevention discipline in the standards-setting process.

The Standards working Group is a national collaboration between key government and non-government agencies with a special interest in the public health perspective of consumer safety. The Group includes Ms Pam Albany from NSW Health, Professor Joan Ozanne-Smith from Monash University Accident Research Centre, Mr Ian Scott from Kidsafe, Ms Mary Sexton from the Commonwealth Department of Health and Family Services, Dr Ron Somers from SA Health Commission, and Dr Margaret Stevens from WA Health.

The Group is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced individuals who would be interested in working with the Standards Working Group and Standards Australia committees. Standards Australia has welcomed the prospect of increased participation from those involved in public health and injury prevention.
