A picture of health? A preliminary report of the health of country Australians

This report was prepared by staff of the Australian Agricultural Health Unit in Moree and released in October 1997 as a background paper for the National Rural Public Health Forum. It provides a snapshot or profile of the health of the rural population of this country, making use of available indicators. Its focus is on the national health priority areas, including injury.

Drink Driving: Report 1

Published at the end of 1997, this South Australian report outlines the results of the first part of a study into adult drink driving, using data from SA Police and the Courts Administration Authority. It describes the demographic characteristics of drink driving offenders, examines any associated offending behaviour; compares the profiles of probationary licence offenders with those of full licence offenders; and describes the penalties imposed by the court and how they var according to demographic factors. A second part of the study, yet to be finalised, will analyse repeat drink drivers in terms of their demographic characteristics, penalties received and time between offences.

The Cost of Injury to Victoria

Produced by MUARC with funding from the Victorian Department of Human Services, this report broadly describes the epidemiology of injury in the State of Victoria at various level of severity and provides an estimate of the total lifetime cost of injury to the Victorian community for cases which occurred in the financial year 1993/94, the most recent year for which reliable incidence data for each level of injury severity were available.

Heading Injuries out of Soccer: a review of the literature

This report aims to critically review both formal literature and informal sources that describe injury prevention countermeasures in relation to the game of soccer. It provides an evaluation of the extent to which these have been demonstrated to be effective. Makes recommendations for further research, development and implementation.
