Injury Prevention Program Database

The details of most injury prevention programs are never published in professional journals. Information about current health promotion practice in injury prevention remains largely inaccessible in the vast amounts of material which is never published or publicly released. The Collation of Injury Prevention and Control Initiatives Project has revealed an enormous amount of activity in injury prevention throughout Australia. This represents a large bank of knowledge and experience about the application of health promotion and, specifically, injury prevention strategies. Sharing information about effective injury prevention initiatives and resources adds to the body of knowledge on good practice and helps to coordinate efforts to prevent injuries. A database of injury-related prevention and control initiatives has been produced for the Queensland Health Promotion Council by the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the University of Queensland.

The database does not represent an exhaustive list of injury prevention programs throughout Australia. It is, however, a large and representative sample of programs. It was compiled from a complete list of injury-related initiatives funded by state health promotion agencies funded between 1990 and 1996. You'll find the database at the following web address:
